We
specialize in providing psychotherapy and assessment services to
children, adolescents and their families. We have many years of
education and experience doing sensitive, caring, and developmentally
appropriate psychotherapy with children who are having emotional
and behavioral difficulties. Play therapy, problem solving models
of family therapy and modified cognitive behavioral strategies are
employed to identify and target a child's distress, relieve symptoms
and build postive alternatives. We also frequently work with adult
individuals and couples.

We
offer psychotherapy and assessment services to children, adolescents,
and adults using the interventions in both individual and group
contexts. Individual therapy is available in both play and modified
cognitive behavioral models. The most common group when working
with children and adolescents is the family or families (as in foster
care setting or parental separation and divorce contexts).
We
work with the parental couple regarding their parenting communication
and decisions as well as the marital relationship. Many children
are raised by a single parent but most often there is another parent
who is variably involved in the parenting and most certainly involved
in the family system that the child experiences. It is our goal
to involve all members of the family that can have an impact on
improving individual and family functioning.
There
are important confidentiality concerns when working with any child
but this does not exclude parental involvement in their child's
therapy. In fact, there is rarely successful therapy without parental
significant interest and involvement in the treatment. However,
when safety issues are the main concern, it is our ethical and human
responsibility to communicate in a clear and timely manner with
those responsible for making safety decisions in a child's life.
It
is our goal to help every family work as well as possible for the
mutual benefit of all members of the family and step out when that
is happening.
We
are interested in working with you in planning the treatment process
and will discuss the options with you during an initial phone contact.
We will try to answer all your questions to help you in your decision
in making an initial appointment. Psychotherapy is as much about
a good fit of therapist and client as it is about what we do, much
like many relationships.
When
there is agreement to start a course of treatment, we will develop
with you a contract which outlines the rights and responsibilities
of therapist and client. Therapy progress will be evaluated periodically
and treatment decisions will be mutually agreed to. We work best
when the communication is open and clear and we ask you for the
same. This gives therapy the best chance to be a successful experience
for all.
Please
contact one of us for an initial phone consultation.
